This Privacy Policy describes how MovieRat ("we", "us") collects, uses and protects your information when you use the MovieRat mobile application and related services.
Information we collect
- Account information: your email address (used for passwordless sign-in), display name, optional avatar, country and language preferences.
- Activity data: titles you rate, save to your watchlist, comment on, and recommendations you send to or receive from friends.
- Social connections: friend relationships you create inside the app.
- Subscription status: whether you have an active MovieRat Plus subscription. Payment is processed entirely by Google Play or the Apple App Store — we never see or store your payment details.
How we use your information
- To operate the service: sign-in codes by email, personalized recommendations, friend features.
- To improve suggestion quality based on your ratings and preferences.
- To verify subscription entitlements.
We do not sell your personal data.
Third-party services
- TMDB (The Movie Database) — provides movie and TV metadata. Your search queries are forwarded to TMDB to fetch results. This product uses the TMDB API but is not endorsed or certified by TMDB.
- Google AdMob — shows advertisements to free-tier users. AdMob may collect advertising identifiers as described in Google's Privacy Policy.
- Google Play Billing / Apple In-App Purchase — processes subscription payments.
- Brevo — delivers transactional emails (sign-in codes).
Data retention & deletion
Your data is retained while your account is active. You can request deletion of your account and all associated data at any time through our contact form. We will complete deletion requests within 30 days.
Security
All traffic between the app and our servers is encrypted with TLS (HTTPS). Authentication uses short-lived tokens; we never store passwords.
Children
MovieRat is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect data from them.
Changes
We may update this policy; material changes will be announced in the app. Continued use after changes constitutes acceptance.
